Founded in 1975, the Gonzalez family of companies has strategically grown to become a major full service supplier in the automotive, aerospace, defense and communications electronics industries. A family-owned, Certified Minority Business Enterprise, Gonzalez Group is proudly comprised of four companies located in Michigan, Mexico and California.
Our Story
The late Henry Gonzalez founded Gonzalez Design Engineering after a 30 year career managing tool design companies in support of the automotive industry. After his death in 1977, his sons Ric and Gary Gonzalez followed in their father’s footsteps and began working to diversify the company, following the emerging requirements of their customers to build the Gonzalez Design Group.
From the early beginnings as a design shop for the tool builders and OEMs in the Detroit area, Ric and Gary saw the need for on-site placement services of engineers and technical personnel to service their clientele. In 1978, Gonzalez Contract Services (GCS) was formed to meet that need, providing technical contingent labor for the Detroit automotive industry. Today, GCS provides a full spectrum of personnel requirements from permanent placement and contingent labor to complete vendor management solutions. At the same time, Gonzalez began diversifying its services across multiple verticals, successfully bidding contracts for specification writing and engineering services for the defense industry. Initially working with the United States Army, Gonzalez rapidly expanded to provide services to the United States Air Force. Not long after, Gonzalez Design Engineering became known as a “can do” solutions provider for their defense customers.
In 1980 Semi-Kinetics was formed to service the growing electronics industry in southern California. Today Semi-Kinetics services the medical, defense and commercial products industries with full service contract manufacturing of printed circuit board assemblies. The next logical progression for the organization was to build the products they had spent years developing for their customers and in the 1990’s Gonzalez Design Group expanded into the manufacture of steel shipping containers (Gonzalez Manufacturing Technologies) and finally full system integration for body shop and assembly systems (Gonzalez Production Systems).
Gonzalez Design Group began with one goal – simplifying the manufacturing process for its clients. Today, Gonzalez remains the premier manufacturing partner in the automotive, aerospace, defense and communications electronics industry.
